Reflections on Layering

One of the things I really like to do when taking pictures is try to “layer” an image with as much information as I can. This picture was taken at a huge automobile auction at Sullivan Auctioneers in Hamilton in 2004. I was walking up and down the rows of cars and saw this picture: colorful interior, great reflections of people looking at the car, good sky, etc. I don’t know if it’s a good picture, but it’s one of my favorites.Car Auction

Basketball Thriller

Basketball tournament time at the high school level around here is a riot. Great atmosphere, great games. This picture was taken in 2005 as Liberty faced Macomb. I really, really liked this picture, because it says so much. Fourth-quarter action, score tied, time running out, a Macomb player shooting a last-second shot trying to win the game, everyone standing dead silent waiting to see what will happen. I didn’t run this photo in the paper, because Liberty eventually won the game and we went with a jubilation picture of Liberty’s Justin Brock screaming down the court with his hand raised in the “No. 1″ sign. Nothing wrong at all with the pic we ran, I just like this one a lot, too. Liberty v. Macomb BBKB

Bullriding at Adams County Fair

Bullriding events are always one of my favorite things to cover. The action is good, the riders incredibly accessible and easy to work around. They are a lot of fun if you like the sport of rodeo, which I do. However, there are pitfalls. I was once doused with a thin layer of bull “excrement” as it flew out of the chute. Needless to say, I kept the windows down on the 30-minute ride home. This picture was taken during a bullriding event at the Adams County Fairgrounds a few years ago.Bullriding
