Quincy Museum receives unexpected guest prior to Saturday’s opening

The Civil War exhibit opening Saturday at the Quincy Museum had a late-night visitor early this week.

The museum’s alarm was set off at 4 a.m. Wednesday after a window was shattered.

After a quick search, an owl was discovered in the museum gift shop. It apparently flew right through the window and was released after Animal Control caught it, said museum Executive Director Barbara Wilkinson.

The exhibit features Quincy during the Civil War. On display are firearms, sabres and medical supplies. There are also cases from the Western Illinois Sanitary Fair and a storefront of a 1860s hardware store.

The museum is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for children.
