Time to turn the calendar and get a little closer to spring. Here’s your two-fer:
1. It’s the most wonderful time of the year
The madness of March is upon us. For much of the next month, we’ll be tuned into various brackets, watching our favorite teams trying to survive and advance. It’s already been a good March Madness around here with the Quincy Notre Dame girls basketball team’s triumph over the weekend at the Illinois Class 2A state tournament. We’ll have to see if anyone can follow in the Lady Raiders’ footsteps. The best bet is the Marion County girls. In a few weeks, we’ll all have our NCAA Tournament brackets filled out. With so many top teams getting beat on a pretty regular basis, this could be a crazy tournament. Enjoy.
2. Tick, tick, tick
I’m somewhat surprised that ESPN hasn’t put up an NFL lockout clock on its screen yet. At midnight Thursday, the current collective bargaining agreement expires and unless something radical happens over the next 48 hours or so it’s looking like the league will have a lockout. It’s not really a big deal to have a lockout in March, but we’ll still hear about it as if the end of the league is here. Try to stay calm.
