Warming up with JD Gravina

August 4, 2011 1 Comment

Now that the July recruiting period is over, new Western Illinois University women’s basketball coach JD Gravina has time for some other things.

On Wednesday night, he’ll throw out the first pitch at the Quad City River Bandits’ game. The fine folks at the WIU Sports Information Department took some time to make a little video with Gravina practicing for his big day.

As you could guess, Gravina can’t throw a lick. It takes a little coaching from his assistant Seth Minter, who used to pitch at Culver-Stockton and for the Quincy Gems, to straighten out Gravina.

If you’ve missed Gravina, he’ll be back in Quincy on Aug. 14 when the Leathernecks’ Coaches Caravan makes a stop at Kutter’s Bar and Grill. Gravina and football coach Mark Hendrickson are among the coaches who are supposed to make the trip and be at Kutter’s between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Here’s Gravina’s latest star turn on YouTube. If he doesn’t make “Funky Cold Medina” he entrance music when he goes out to the first pitch, he’s dead to me.
