The Daily DOB — Sept. 14

Sorry for the hiatus. It’s been busy in my world lately.

Another weekend of football in the books, including the first week of the NFL. Here’s what I saw:

• Illinois is 2-0, baby! Book those bowl game plans now. Or not. Who knows how good the Illini are. Kent State and Western Illinois are not very good. Although I think WIU would beat Kent State. Illini will find out more about themselves this week at North Carolina.

• WIU needs help. The Necks whipped up on my EIU Panthers in their opener, which is no great feat. The Necks need a running game. Their defense is going to be OK, I think, but the offense needs a spark from the backfield. Another huge test against FBS’ top-ranked team, Coastal Carolina, awaits WIU this week.

• Mizzou may be in for a long SEC season. The Tigers are 2-0, but looked pretty pedestrian in a win at Arkansas State, a team that lost by 50-plus in its opener to Southern Cal. I think the Tigers will struggle in the SEC, but considering the SEC’s early troubles, maybe the league isn’t what it stacked up to be.

• I may go out and see the new look football side of QU Stadium on Saturday. The Hawks lost their opener at Northern Michigan. QU plays a Lincoln (Mo.) team that is 1-1 this year and losers of eight of their last 10 games since a convincing win over the Hawks last year in Jefferson City. From what I’ve seen on social media, the football stadium is looking good.

• One last note: Tony Romo, Mr. Clutch.
