The Daily DOB — Sept. 17

We’re at the doorstep of another weekend of football action. Can we survive another blitz of FanDuel and DraftKings ads?

Each daily fantasy sports league website boasts huge monetary payouts for very little investment. I know that it’s possible to win millions on a $2 Powerball ticket. It’s a total game of chance. To do the same in a daily fantasy sports league is a bit hard to believe.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. As a result, I believe these daily fantasy sports sites are basically a rip off, a way to get into your wallet. I have told my fantasy football loving 11-year-old to never play them. I’ve played fantasy sports for more than 20 years and would never touch them.

Each site has put a ton of money into advertising. This New York Times piece said that the sites ran more than 8,000 ads during the opening weekend of the NFL season last week. It seemed like a lot more than that.

While they might not be for me, maybe you’re thinking about playing daily fantasy sports. If so, read this article before you jump into it. The piece does a pretty good job of spelling out the pros and cons of the sites.

Good luck surviving another ad blitz this weekend.
