Here’s my picks before they start singing for their American Idol lives Tuesday and Wednesday nights. This may not correlate exactly to my rankings, but this is how I feel America will vote at this point:
THE GUYS (Tuesday)
Guaranteed to advance
Brett Lowenstern
James Durbin
Casey Abrams
Jacob Lusk
Comment: Lowenstern is probably the only question mark among these four, and it’s probably a minor one unless he forgets his lyrics. Durbin will run into problems in the finals, but for now is probably safe.
Questionable
Paul McDonald
Jovany Barreto
Tim Halperin
Scotty McCreery
Comment: I really hope McDonald can be one of the six guys to advance. I think the talent is definitely there, but he has not received much push yet from the Idol powers-to-be. McCreery is likable, but is in way over his head.
No chance
Stefano Langone
Jordan Dorsey
Robbie Rosen
Clint Jun Gamboa
Comment: Dorsey has the talent to emerge, but I think America will hold what seems to be — at least at times — an arrogance in his attitude. Gamboa is still public enemy No. 1 from his involvement in the Jacee Badeaux debacle..
THE GIRLS (Wednesday)
Guaranteed to advance
Lauren Alaina (Suddeth)
Julie Zorrilla
Karen Rodriguez
Ashton Jones
Comment: I’d be shocked if any of these four do not coast in the round of 12. Each of these four could be the next American Idol.
Questionable
Ta-Tynisa Wilson
Thia Megia
Pia Toscano
Naima Adedapo
Comment: Adedapo is borderline, but I think America likes her story. Megia and Toscano are strong contenders, but I’m not sure they have connected yet with the audience.
No chance
Kendra Chantelle Campbell
Rachel Zevita
Lauren Turner
Haley Reinhart
Comment: In some years, Zevita and Reinhart would cruise to the finals. This, however, is no ordinary year.
