Green adds new pitch to repertoire

Drake Green knew to expect an increase of innings as a sophomore pitcher for the Quincy High School baseball team.

He spent the offseason improving, which also meant adding a changeup to give him three pitches at his disposal.

“Before varsity I had fastball and curveball,” Green said. “Coach (Brigham John) told me if I had a changeup it’d be a third pitch to get somebody out with.”

Green recognized he needed another pitch during his first varsity season. Before pitching for the Blue Devils he grew accustom to trying to rack up strikeouts.

That’s no longer the case.

“In summer ball you’re just trying to throw strikes and blow it past people,” Green said. “Now you’re throwing strikes and let your defense do the work for you.”
