2011-12 SEASON OUTLOOK

Coach: Brad Tomhave (126-55 at Pittsfield, seventh season; overall, same).
2010-11 record: 28-7
Returning starters: C Dalton Hoover, 6-6, Sr.; G Seth Petty, 5-11, Sr.
Other returning letterwinners: F Austin McCartney, 6-1, Sr.; G Ethan Borrowman, 5-10, Jr.
New Faces: G Dylan Reel, 5-11, Jr.; G Kennedy Kattelman, 5-11, Jr.; F Dylan Woodward, 6-2, Jr.; F Brant Bess, 6-2, Jr.; F Ty Rylander, 6-1, Jr.; F Joe Miller, 6-3, Sr.; G Cameron Herring, 5-9, Soph.; G Wayde Smith, 6-1, Soph.
Key losses: G Brad Hamilton, G Taylor Kattelman, F Cory Roseberry, G Daniel Grote, G Austin Barton.
Outlook:
The Saukees captured the second state trophy in program history last winter, and duplicating that feat will be a tall task. Having Hoover back in the middle certainly helps.
The Quincy University signee averaged 15 points and 9.6 rebounds last year and blocked 65 shots while making huge plays in the postseason. He’ll have to shoulder more of the load this season until some of the younger talent emerges. Hoover will get help from Petty, who is a solid ball-handler and will knock down some 3-pointers, and McCartney, who will give the Saukees some tenacity inside.
The big question Pittsfield faces is who takes control when games are close. Hamilton, the 2011 Herald-Whig Player of the Year, did that every time last year.
“We have an outstanding group of youngsters that will step in and work extremely hard to pick up where we left off last season,” Tomhave said.
