Crazy night for modified driver Wietholder

Cleaning out the Sunday night notebook:

Dave Wietholder may have endured the craziest night of any driver
this season at Quincy Raceways.

Wietholder and his No. 5 blue-and-orange modified went airborn,
then rolled during a hot laps mishap coming out of turn one.
Incredibly, the car started, and Wietholder drove it to the pits and was
ready to race by the first green flag.

Wietholder, who was later involved a couple of on-track skirmishes
during the evening, won a heat race and trophy dash before winding up
11th in the feature. The Liberty resident is No. 8 in this week’s
Stevie Dirt Regional Rankings (see below) and fourth in track points.

KARHOFF BACK ON THE TRACK

It was interesting to see Mike Karhoff once again behind the wheel of a modified. Karhoff, who last year was co-owner of Quincy Raceways, finished 16th in the 22-car feature driving one of Tony Dunker’s cars.

Karhoff is No. 3 in the The Herald-Whig’s career "A" modified driver rankings and No. 5 in the combined career modified rankings. The modifieds were unified after the 2005 season.

Although he never won a track title, Karhoff finished second twice in points, finished in the top five on five occasions and in the top 10 nine times.

Karhoff also enjoyed success in a late model before retiring a few years ago, finishing with 23 total victories at Quincy Raceways. That still ranks him among the top 15 since drivers in the modern (IMCA) era.

NEWLYWED FINISHES FIFTH

Chris Wibbell of Dallas City finished fifth in the stock car feature, then left on his honeymoon. Wibbell, who was married Saturday, is second in points to John Oliver Jr., 332-331.

Wibbell is the only driver at the track to complete all of his series’ feature laps. Wibbell ran his string to 205 Sunday night.

ATOP THE POINTS

Michael Long has led the modified points race all seven weeks, the only driver to hold down the No. 1 spot all season. In fact, Long has been perched atop the standings for 25 straight weeks dating back to April 2007.

Here’s a look how many weeks the various leaders have spent atop the points standings this season (ties for the lead are counted as a full week leading):
