The wait is over.

Mark Burgtorf became the fifth late model driver in the modern era of the IMCA — and the first from Illinois — to reach 100 career feature victories when he collected the checkered flag Friday night at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa.

Burgtorf, who had been trying for the elusive victory for a month, joined some select company with the milestone win. He joins Iowa standouts Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown, Curt Martin of Independence, Todd Cooney of Des Moines and Rob Toland of Davenport as the only drivers in the IMCA century club.

Burgtorf, a 14-time track champ at the Bullring, reached the 200-victory mark in overall feature wins late in the 2008 season.

IMCA accomplishments are nothing new for Burgtorf, who has been driving late models sicne 1985. He has also won IMCA-sponsored national and Deery Brothers Summer Series tour championships.

WAY TO GO MARK!!!! You deserved it! Way to stick it out through your tough “4th” place victory/finishing. I am glad it didn’t last long.
