It’s what’s up front that counts — so far

What a difference a year has made — so far.

In 2009, 43 of  of 84 feature winners at the Bullring came from the first two rows. That’s 51.2 percent. In 2010, that figure is 83.3 percent. Granted, we’ve only had three shows (and five cancellations), so not too much should be read into those numbers yet.

Is it because of the dreaded one groove track? Luck of the draw? At this point it wouldn’t be fair to point too many fingers, but it’s a trend worth watching.

When we get a few more weeks under our belt, we’ll break it down in more detail class by class, but here are the composite track numbers this season, compared to a year ago:

WINS FROM THE POLE
2010: 3 of 12, .250
2009: 8 of 84, .095

WINS FROM FIRST ROW
2010: 8 of 12, .667
2009: 22 of 84, .262

WINS FROM FIRST TWO ROWS
2010:
10 of 12, .833
2009: 43 of 84, .512

Only 2 days left and there are no cars in Mr. T’s drive so i’m taking that as a good sign. WooHoo I can almost feel the rumble of cars. Stevie when you gonna start selling copies of your blog rated X the unedited version.

  2. flyby says:

Stevie are you being sarcastic? Of course people who start up front are winning. It has been a ONE LANE TRACK!!!! That’s why they lost a few drivers.

I think it will be nice and tacky Sunday though. :)

Mr. Dirt we are going to Iowa tonight to get our tempory fix in… We will eat a little food and drink a lot of beer just for you :-)

  4. seighinger says:

    flyby,

no sarcasm intended, just putting the numbers out there … and as they say, the numbers do not lie.

you can draw from them whatever you like, but there is a stark difference from 2009 to 2010, although we only have three weeks worth of sampling for the current season.

girl mod fan and just a fan,

have a great time tonight!!! give us a report when you get back!!

  6. 7RACE says:

STEVE , LOOK AT JUST THE FEATURE’S ALONE AND SEE HOW THE NUMBERS REALLY GO UP. I BELIEVE THE LATE MODELS ALONE WAS LIKE 18 OF 23 FROM THE FIRST TWO ROWS. THE BIG THING IS THE EXCITEMENT IS GONE FROM RACING THERE. IT IS JUST ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN FROM THE BACK AND THAT IS WHY THE CAR COUNT IS DOWN. IT IS ALSO THE REASON THE SPECTATOR COUNT IS DOWN. I CAN TELL YOU THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT I WILL GO TO A TRACK EVERYWEEK KNOWING THAT THE GUY IN THE BACK AS NO CHANCE OF WINNING THE RACE. THAT IS HAPPENING IN ABOUT EVERY CLASS EXCEPT THE MODIFIEDS WHERE MICHAEL LONG IS THE EXCEPTION.

  7. racer says:

flyby, why dont you do like mueller and quit making an appearance on here

  8. JRB 38 says:

POINT HANDICAP FANS LIKE IT DRIVERS DON’T… WHEN YOU RUN GOOD AND YOU SHOW UP EVERY WEEK YOU GET TO START IN THE 5TH OR 6TH ROW, WITH A FOLLOW THE LEADER ONE GROOVE TRACK IT’S GOING TO HAVE WINNERS FROM THE 1ST AND 2ND ROW… GO BACK TO WIN THE HEAT, START UP FRONT… MOST FANS THINK THE HEAT RACES MEAN SOMETHING MORE THAN A PICTURE AND A COUPLE OF PIONTS… ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS FINISH A TOP 4 AND YOU START IN THE SAME PLACE IN THE FEATURE.
AND BY THE WAY HEATS PAY, NO MONEY!!! THEY USED TO, IN THE OLD DAYS, I WAS THERE IN THE DRIVERS MEETING WHEN THE SCOTTS MADE THE ANOUSMENT, NO PAY FOR HEATS… AND STEVE FRAISE
SAID, ” I DON’T RACE FOR FREE ” THAT WAS COOL, AND WE HAVEN’T BEEN PAYED FOR HEATS SINCE THEN.
DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHAT YEAR THAT WAS??? I THINK IT WAS IN THE 80’S…JEFF

Went to donalson last night, think it’s a milti-grooved track but it was still follow the leader most of the races were like watching paint dry. With the exception of Long and of course Burgtorf cause he’s awesome oh yes and mueller there was no passing no excitement but they did wreck a lot. Upside beer $2.50 although cans it gave us a chance to rock the awesome can coozies. Quincy appriecate your fans cause we’re awesome for we are the masters of cheering woot wooting fist pumping and even booing no where else has that. Much prefer home sweet home. C-ya Sunday! whoot whoot.

  10. seighinger says:

    nothing like the bullring, bay-bee!

  11. Girl mod fan says:

It was nice to be at a race track but Really wasnt the excitment I was hoping for!! I would of liked to see more fan interaction the golf clap got old. We went up there excited but was sadly disappointed to see the fans just aren’t into racing! Did enjoy getting to see the home boys, burg, Denny, reed, perry. Was hoping to see frankle and maybe just maybe mr dunker in his late model… Was fun to get a chance to say hello to mr b as he was leavin the pits. The races may have had more than one groove but was still yawning through most. Nothing can compare to the bullring, maybe its the fans tht really bring the excitment to the race track. Cheap beer helped, the food was okay, just made my heart long for home even more!! Even more thankful for what we do have and makes me appreciate it even more!!! The one positive thing was their annoucer was full of enthusiasm and was very involved something quincy no longer has…. But to put it on a scale, Bullring still comes in at a 10!!!!! Less than 24 hours again…. I can hear the rumble of them now!!! :-)

  12. fanatic says:

im a little confused here. What makes quincy better than lcs? lcs had a perfect smooth dry slick track. Cheaper admission, food, beer. better announcer. More cars. Giveaways for the kids. And just all around better races.

  13. just a fan says:

fanatic i’m with ya all the way on the beer cause it’s cheap I got to use a coozie. BUT yhey don’t carry brats either, can’t smoke in the stands, some fans could easily be confused with wax figurines or dolls, no matter how many groves they had, the only passing was really done by QR regulars who do it anyway. I’ll give you the announcer thing too cause he was more exciting too bad the races were’nt.

  14. Girl mod fan says:

The excitement wasn’t there and no matter how much fun a vacation is there is nothing better then being HOME with YOUR people… It sucks getting evil eyes from people just for cheering for your fan… Almost looked like we where going to get hog tied or kicked out for cheering for wyatt lantz or mark burgtorf… Its great at home you can act crazy and no one even really cares, then again if you have to stand up every time and give the driver you dont like the finger, the tower god will call you out on it and we will all have a laugh on your benefit…. Sorry but nothing beats home town dirt track racing!!!!
