Schlipman, Klingele go back-to-back at the Bullring

May 30, 2010 48 Comments

Jared Schlipman and Tanner Klingele both won their second consecutive features Sunday night at the Bullring — and both now find themselves in the thick of a championship hunt.

Schlipman stormed past Tony Dunker in dramatic fashion in the closing laps of the modified feature, while Klingele made the most of a late restart to collect the checkered flag in the hobby stock main event.

Jason Perry in the late models and Honest Abe Huls in the stock cars were the other feature winners as 8000 Broadway raced for only the fourth Sunday evening this season and just the second time since April 18.

Schlipman was finally able to power past Dunker on the high side in lap 19 and went on to win his second career modified  feature. In doing so, Schlipman climbed to third in the series points standings. Dave Wietholder, who was sixth in the feature, leads with 260 points, followed by defending champ Justin Reed (238) and Schlipman (232).

Klingele found himself inheriting the lead after a lap 18 caution that sent Jake Powers to the rear of the field for rough driving. Klingele held off Jim Powell for the third feature win of his fledgling career. Steve Carlin (151) maintained the hobby stock points lead despite an 11th-place finish feature finish that was no fault of his own. Carlin was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Bobby Anders and Larry Powell tangled on lap seven. Jim Powell (147), Powers (144), Anders (143) and Klingele (141) are all bunched within 10 points of the series lead.

Perry was impressive in his late model victory, leading the last 17 laps. He has also built an 11-point lead (85-74) over Justin Reed at the top of the late model standings. Reed was fifth in the feature behind runner-up Denny Woodworth, Lonnie Bailey and Keith Pratt.

Huls outlasted Terry Houston by 0.359 of a second in an entertaining stock car feature. Houston leads Huls (155-150) in the series points standings.

STEVIE DIRT REGIONAL RANKINGS: YEAR 3

Denny Woodworth’s second-place feature showing Sunday night at the Bullring tightened the late model rankings, while Abe Huls’ checkered flag in the stock car main event allowed him to move closer to points leader Jeff Mueller.

  6. just a fan says:

That’s just crazy talk, are you telling me they sell my messing but equally scumptous chicken wings they’re immosible to eat at the track. Drat thar Mr.T. What a sweet ass homecoming had a blast, but did I forget how to count there were at least 5 cars in that first pile up but cars were nit giving back that spots. Little cheesy paying $1 per sprint car they were disappointing loved the rest. And we totally smiled & waved at you. Can’t wait for next sunday. Good showing team 4 & congrats perry cause DW was definitley trying to getchya.

  7. just a fan says:

Oh yes and congtrats klingle and so glad stevie that you didn’t have to kil a racing fairy, messy business that.

  8. Girl mod fan says:

lol hey Skipp…. Beer Foul!!! :-D

  9. jason beckman says:

i thought the call to send jake powers to the back was bs he held his line on the bottom of the track the whole time not his fault that 26 was slower than him and saw him coming down low then drove down the track into him. ALSO i think the crap going on between the powells and anders needs to stop all u are doing is tearing everyone else up. maybe we should get a boxing ring and put it in the infield 4 them one on one that would be cheaper

  10. DRYSLICK says:

THEY MADE A BAD CALL ON THE O CAR THEY SEE WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE. FOR THE 26 CAR TO TURN LEFT INTO YOU IS NOT RIGHT. SO WHO IS THE BIG HOT SHOT MAKING THE CALL NOW.

  11. seighinger says:

    Dryslick,

Calls like that are mde by a consensus of officials in the tower and on the track. Right or wrong, more than one voice is involved.

  12. dirtsquirt says:

well they hearing the wrong voices then!! the 26 turned left!! couldn’t stand seeing the win go away!!

  13. Michael Larsen says:

There was alot of rough driving going on at the track sunday night in the hobbies…..yes rubbin is racin but come on boys we don’t need to take someone out!! I guess its ok for some cars to rub but when others do its wrong?? You wanna talk about bad calls….what about the call in the hobby heat race when the #20b when into turn 1 at the bottom and didn’t even turn the wheels and tried to take the 48j out? The 48j seen him coming and hit the brake and instead he took the 5h out. Now things like that are just going to get people seriously hurt. If he would have connected with the 48j the way he was trying to he could have flipped him and ever seriously hurt him…and this is all on video and i would be glad to show anyone this! But anyway the 48j is the one that got the rough driving penalty….why???? Then again in the feature another car clips anothers front end when trying to slide job-pass whatever and instead of collecting his car up he stands on the throttle and completly destroys his own car and someone elses. NOW THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!!!!!!! You can’t throw any aluminum steering wheel at someone and put a gash in thier door!! What would have happened if that would have went through the widow net and seriously hurt the 87?? Come on people grow up!!!

  14. dirtsquirt says:

well they kinda bring that on themselves! they been on here bashing and smack talking for awhile now. But it is b.s. when they take others out!!

  15. Michael Larsen says:

Yes it is!! i agree….and everyone has been asking me why i haven’t brought my car yet this year??? Go watch the races and you will see why!! I am not bringing my car unless people can start learning that rubbing is racin no matter where you go!!!! They also need to remember that if you can dish it out you better be able to recieve also!! That is the reason i stepped away from the hobby class and moved to stock cars. Whats bad is the hobbies are my favorite and always will be! I just think everyone needs to get thier heads screwed on straight and hey……LETS GO RACIN!!!!!

  16. quincy fan says:

well michael larson then maybe you should tell larry and jimbo to get there heads on straight because there the ones that cause all the shit. there the ones that cause 90% of all the wrecks sunday night. so if you want to bad talk ppls driving go to your garage and tell your drivers to learn how to drive. Larry shouldn’t even been able to race because he already had his car on the trailer up until the feature was lining up. its evident that it was all done intentionally. jmo!!

  17. Nathan Anders says:

idk larson i got put in the wall two weeks ago racing and it was just cause of racing hard. but when it turns around and its you guys gettin tore up its all bull (crap) and (crap) needs to stop??? believe me im just as tired of it as you are. so maybe if ppl would grow up and leave (crap) alone and race and have fun maybe we wouldn’t have to spend three hundred dollars a week to fix our cars!!!!!!

  18. BOBBY ANDERS says:

iI agree it all needs to stop an i will be the first to admit i was driving rough in the heat race. But i didnt have any control on getting intentionally spun out by the 87 crew he did a hell of a job gettin the job done and everybody knows that.

  19. BOBBY ANDERS says:

and for in the heat race jimbo had a way better line then i had to start the race off anyways off the bottom but i guess if a guy wants the top side then others should just get out of the gas an give it up.

  20. jim powell says:

for one q fan i’ve been racin for 16years never had anyone tell me how to drive and i did rub bobby in the heat race did not mean to had car under me pushing me up so if you think you can out drive me get a car and try by the way i started in the back of the feature sunday and finshed 2nd did not touch a car the whole race till you have been in a race car dont talk about it be about it jim powell 48j!!!!!!

  21. mike heimer says:

i agree that there was some rough driving sunday. but as for the wreck n the heat between jimbo and bobby if jimbo was driving rough then he should have been penalized for it then and wait 5 laps and give bobby the chance to come back up thru the field and try to take him out intentionally. and the reason larry was on yhe trailor was because he busted a power steering line and didnt have one to replace it till michael whent and bought the parts to do so. so quincy fan untill u know what ur talking about why dont u take them shoes off ur teeth and stop running ur mouth.

  22. Michael Larsen says:

i do agree with everyone but on one little thing……larry thought he broke his car so when i found the problem i fixed it and we unloaded it….as for intentional I DON”T THINK SO!! Larry was running 3rd at the time of the wreck!!! As for Nathan you need to think of who all you guys come to for parts to fix your cars or parts you borrow at the track!! If you like i will put a stop to certain people borrowing stuff except for only teamates!!! And i beleive when you came to the garage to get the parts to fix your car you even said you was just a little high a few weeks ago when your right rear went over the cushion in turn 4 sucking you car in the wall!!! And as for Quincy Fan….. Would you like to see the heat race again??? It shows very well the 20b car shooting down into turn 1 and never even turned the wheels! When jim saw him he just hit the brake and bob took out the 5h!!!!!
I would be more than glad to bring my car back out as a hobby with the new rules!! Then both my boys will always have a backup!! It’s not no Dominator or teminator or even a JRC car but it is a PFR car and can be ready at any given time. I can hang back till feature time incase the boys need a ride for the feature…doesn’t hurt my feelings one bit!!

We will see MOST of you guys Sunday!!
    Michael D. Larsen #48

  23. faninthestands says:

It was obviously intentional that Larry Powell went into the feature race looking to take out Bobby Anders. That is as low as it gets. A real race car driver RACES. He doesn’t say, “Hey buddy that 20 car is faster than me, will you take him out for me, because I’m jealous”. Jim is just as guilty as him because he planned it with Larry. If I was officiating and seen that happen, Larry would be suspended for at least 1 week.

Jim won a few races to start off the season last year and you didn’t see anyone crying OH MY GOD HE IS TOO FAST lets gang up on him and take him out or claim him!

The fact is, Bobby Anders is faster. I don’t know the guy. But he is the fastest hobby stock on the track. Get over it and quit tearing up race cars! Jim isn’t as fast as Bobby this year! Bobby wasn’t as fast as Jim last year! GET OVER IT!!! I rooted for the Powells last year because they were fast and clean. They gave people the bumper sometimes but never intentionally taking someone out.Heck I remember watching Jim and Larry banging on each other one night! I think one of them spun the other out!

Lets watch some good clean racing from now on! A little rubbing is great, but keep her straight boys!

  24. just a fan says:

I say whatever class of stocks this is we cancel for a week or 2. I can’t even read this he said she said baby talk anymore. Verdict: Guilty one and all.

  25. dirtwatcher says:

JUST A FAN– are you crazy? THIS IS GREAT!!! Keep it up boys!!!

  26. jim powell says:

im not go to say im percet and i dont care if bobby faster lets all get our heads right and go racin i dont drive dirty and dont wont to be drove dirty so lets quiet this crap!!!!

  27. BOBBY ANDERS says:

once again i bobby anders take the blame for what i did i will man up an say it was a crappy piece of driving i did in the heat race there aint many people that will man up an say what they did, or when the screwed up.

  28. racefan says:

I have to say I enjoyed all the classes this week (with the exception of sprints….it’s ridiculous to charge that much extra to see so little)! As for what happened on the track….I agree that “rubbin’ is racin’”, but let’s not get carried away and threaten others with bodily harm! You guys are supposed to be doing this for fun…and I’m pretty sure some of you weren’t having much fun in the hobby stocks. I know you all have a lot invested in your cars….so I know sometimes it gets “personal” when you feel like someone is trying to take you out, but just remember the old saying “what goes around comes around”, so maybe it’s really not worth it in the long run. Of course, like Jim Powell implied “if you think you can do better, get in a car and try it”. Let’s just say….I’m strictly a fan and plan to keep it that way, so my perspective is just that of a “stand watcher”! ; ) I admire all of you for what you do, and we have a lot of talent out there on the track, but if…for just a moment….I can be a mother to all of you and simply say….”now boys…BE NICE!” ; )
Thanks to all of you for many hours of enjoyment! (and thanks to the officials for doing a job very few would want!)

  29. Michael Larsen says:

As for saying things were planned you are DEAD wrong!!! If those boys ever did something like that i would completly walk away from them and racing!! There was nothing planned!! Why would someone take a chance on doing that when they are running 3rd?? Looks like some people need glasses or even binoculars!! You cant take a 3100lb car and clip a 3700lb car without something happening….just plain science!!!!

  30. Michael Larsen says:

And how many time have you seen the brothers 87 and 48j got at it???? If you haven’t then you haven’t been to the races much!!! Cause buddy they have many of times on and off track!! I know personally!!! So as for ganging up on people that’s a big NO!!!!!!!!!!

  31. pit pass says:

i’m not sure who said (there are so many comments!!), but i agree with whoever talked about enjoying all the classes — i agree! i love sunday nights at the track and even tho some of you guys apparently don’t care for one another you put on a heck of a show. THANKS!

  32. jim powell says:

racefan i couldnt say any better see you guys at the track

  33. racefan says:

I think sportsmanship is knowing that it is a game, that we are only as a good as our opponents, and whether you win or lose, to always give 100 percent. Thanks again for giving 100 percent! (let’s just work on the “sportsmanship” part a little bit more!) LOL.

  34. TEAM4FAN says:

HELL WITH BEIN NICE !!!! I THINK A “DUNKER CONCRETE HARDER CHARGER” $100 BONUS IS IN LINE FOR THE NEXT RACE !!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE NICE , THEY WOULDNT MAKE YOU WEAR HELMETS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE GUYS WHO OWN THE PARTS STORES GOTTA EAT TOO !!!

LET’ER EAT BOYS ….. I FOR ONE AM A HUGE FAN OF CONTROVERSEY !!!!!!!

WELD IN AN EXTRA RUB BAR & WE’LL SEE YA SUNDAY !!! == SKIPP

  35. racefan says:

    LOL @ TEAM4FAN….spoken like a true dirt track race fan! ; )

  36. just a fan says:

I thought only the fans are supposed to dislike each other. Ya”ll are completely disallusioning me if you don’t all love each other back there & wanna share and be BFF’s forever.

  37. Michael Larsen #48 says:

I am seriously thinking bout bringing my car back out there after all this. Everyone has got my head spinning and i am finally getting my drive back to bring my PFR IMCA Stock Car back out!! And as for 20b Bobby Anders i really can’t say a bad word bout this guy. Sometimes we all make mistakes-i know cause i have done them before myself and lost my cool. I have seen you drive at many tracks and i have even helped you before. Everyone needs to get thier heads back on straight and show the fans what racing is all about. Even my PFR boys!! As for anymore comments from me-there will be none. Its all over and done and that’s that!! So lets bring the hobby class back where it once was! Remember alot of people talk bad about me and my boys on here and bihind our backs but no one mentions who they come to when they break something at the track and need parts. Remember boys i believe i have loaned or given pretty much every hobby stocker over there something to get them through the night!! And i really dont mind it. There are also engines i have built and PFR carbs i built running out there in the hobby class. OH and yes i do still have plenty of ideas in my head if someone needs and idea on what to do!! Remember i was taught by the best in the sport…..Mr. Jerry Powers!!! The mayor of Cheaterville!!!!

See you guys sunday and lets put on a show for the fans!!!!

  38. seighinger says:

    Michael,

You just keep talking all you want. You may have made more sense than anyone.

  39. dirtsquirt says:

Chad knaus better look out!! here comes Michael Larson!!

  40. Michael Larsen #48 says:

Well i appreciate the comments i really do… i don’t mean any harm but come on here… i decided to take a break this year and help with some cars and even start building them. The ones i set up and work on are all front runners….one didn’t get to finish sunday nite but that happens and the other did start in the very back and ended up at the #3′s quarter panel when the checkerd flag dropped. I enjoy building parts for people and seeing them do good. I even scale and help the competion just because i can!! One thing i learned from Jerry Powers is that it’s no fun to win all the time but it’s a blast when all the cars are pretty well even and putting on a show. Also getting ready to get my hand into setting up a modified soon i hope!!! This sport is something that grows on you and gets in your blood and no matter how hard you try to get away from it you CAN’T! Remember in ’97 i broke my back in a car and the passion has been so strong that i still haven’t walked away!! When i’m racing or even working on our PFR cars my mind is free and clear of all troubles!!! And i hope to see others passions come to this some day!!!

  41. Girl mod fan says:

Michael Michael Michael Michael…. and the crowd goes wild!!!! Be great to see you back out there!!! *Cheers*

  42. Michael Larsen #48 says:

Well i will admit i’m not all that but i do love racing no matter where i finish….maybe one day i can win a few like i used to back in my hobby stock days!!

  43. JRB 38 says:

Like I say Mikey and Jimbo if you can’t run with the big dogs come on back to Hobby Stock!!!
Heck Mikey put your stock car back together and have a top 10 every night @ Quincy…

  44. Michael Larsen #48 says:

It’s not all about running with the big dogs cause buddy i HAVE done that!!! Sometimes money plays alot in what you can afford to run!! O ya and i also won some b-mod and a-mod races down south!! What have you all ever driven but Hobby Stocks??? By the way i will let the cat out of the bag…i am seriously looking at buying a imca late model during the winter if things go right!!! When you boys can step up and win a few then you can talk about BIG DOGS!!! Until then u should probably just talk about Hobby Stocks!!!

  45. bullringfan says:

here’s an idea for a little after race entertainment. If there are disagreements among drivers on the track, don’t settle it on the track. Instead, have a boxing ring set up in the infield. After the races are over, let the drivers get in the ring with the appropriate gear(gloves, head gear, etc) and pound on each other until they are exhausted. No cars torn up,no innocent drivers involved, and the fans get some extra entertainment for their ticket price. EVERYBODY WINS!! :)

  46. just a fan says:

And loser buys beer for the whole other team for a month, Jello wrestling could also be fun. Or for biig disputes fried twinkie eating contest since they don’t sell brats one who eats most FT within 5 min without ralphing wins.

  47. Godfather says:

Heard today when the Scotts get the new deal all done and have the bumper cars running they are going to have a race night special for drivers only.

  48. just a fan says:

Ima go play at the new scotties
