Countdown to 2012: No. 3 — Carlin, Dunker can climb the ladder

Consistency is the overriding key to any level of racing success, dirt track or otherwise. To finish first, first you have to finish. And to consistely finish in the top five or top 10 gives a driver a great opportunity to enhance his — or her — resume.

Hobby stock/bomber great Steve Carlin, who has won five track titles and is going for a an unprecedented fourth straight in the series this summer. Carlin is also seeking to finish in the top five in points for a fifth straight year. If he accomplishes that feat, he will become just the fifth driver in track history to have 10 or more consecutive top-five points finishes.

Tony Dunker is going after his 13th straight top-10 points finish. If successful, he’ll join a select list of just five other drivers to do so since the track opened in 1975.
