Michael Long: He goes fast

QR old logoIt’s not exactly quantum physics. Michael Long has been the most dominant modified driver over the past decade at the Bullring and the reason is simple: He goes faster than anyone else. (Well, most of the time, anyway.)

Long is the only driver to reach 70 mph during a feature since we have been able to track those kind of things, and he’s done it six times. He also has more fast feature laps (45) over the past five years than any other driver. In fact, he has more than double his closest challenger — Steven DeLonjay (18) — in that category.

In fairness to DeLonjay, who has won the last two track titles, he’s obviously been cutting into that Long dominance, which is one of the reasons 2013 should prove quite interesting. Wouldn’t it be great to see Long and DeLonjay go head-to-head for a full season? Each has won two track championships and smart money says one or the other will win this year, especially since 2010 champ Jared Schlipman is moving to late models.

Anyway you look at it, just putting Michael behind the wheel adds another 100hp to the Ford that he is running. He is not just fast in Quincy, he kicks some serious butt at Granite City and Peavley also. Come to think of it, about anywhere he goes. Yes, I am a Michael Long fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
