Sheppard finished 19th Saturday in the series finale at Oakshade Raceway — his worst finish of the month-long tour — but the 20-year-old had all but wrapped up the championship before the night began.
Sheppard earns $25,000 for winning the title, plus all of his earnings during the Hell Tour.
“This means the world to me,” Sheppard told DirtOnDirt.com afterward. “This just tops it all off.”
Matt Miller won Saturday’s series finale, but the night belonged to Sheppard, of New Berlin, Ill., who dominated the tour from outset. Sheppard four of the 25 races and produced an impressive 20 top-five finishes.
Quincy Raceways driver Dustin Griffin of Camp Point, Ill., finished eighth Saturday to complete a highly successful Summer Nationals run. Griffin wound up fifth in points. Bobby Pierce was second, Shannon Babb third and Ryan Unzicker fourth.
Griffin, Sheppard and Pierce were the only drivers to run the entire circuit.
