Griffin unofficially clinched fifth place in points in the month-long, 5,700-mile tour that has covered eight states and winds up Saturday at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio.
The finish was one of Griffin’s best of the series. He had a second place June 26 in Clarksville, Tenn., and a fourth at Macon, Ill., on July 11.
Doug Drown of Wooster, Ohio, won Friday night’s race. Series points leader Brandon Sheppard was second and Bobby Pierce third. Sheppard has all but clinched his first Hell Tour championship, leading Pierce by 48 points going into Saturday’s finale.
