Every so often I like to toss new track manager Ken Dobson a question I get via email or phone call. Here’s one that just arrived (again), and one that has been asked numerous times in recent seasons.
Question: Hey Kenny D, one of the major complaints from fans for the last five or six years concerns the lack of a program, even a simple sheet to match drivers and numbers. When the Scotts owned the track, there was a weekly program with points standings, driver information, etc. Any chance of some form of at least a simple program in 2014?
Kenny D: Yes. People in Quincy might not be aware of it, but last week we launched our first issue of our regional racing tabloid aimed at keeping fans informed of the stories of our race tracks called “Hammer Down.” The first issue was more targeted to the Springfield area because we had a trade show there. The next issue is going to be very Quincy-oriented because we will mainly be distributing it at the annual Quincy Mall Stock Car Show.
But future issues will be very balanced between coverage from all three of our tracks and it will be handed out monthly at each track.
On a nightly basis we hope to have a very basic nightly program with driver names, car numbers, points etc. In fact, in today’s day and age there’s no reason that copies of that couldn’t be run after the pill draw is closed and handed out during hot laps so you are actually looking at tonight’s lineups. But that’s going to take some planning to pull off right. That may be a lot to ask right off the bat in our first season, but yes, a program of some fashion will be at the Bullring this season.
