This week’s picks to click

winner-themeThe late models are off Sunday night, but the modifieds and sport mods should more than make for the lack of big-bodied cars in the pits. The Gem City Modified Grand Prix is paying $1,250 to win and the sport mods will be running for $500. There should be more than 40 combined mods and sport mods in the pits.

Late models
Have the weekend off.

Modifieds
Pick to click: Steven DeLonjay. He’s on a serious roll right now and should be one of the favorites for that $1,250 first prize in Sunday night’s Gem City Modified Grand Prix.
Don’t forget about: The travelers. On a big payday night like Sunday, the pits should be full of out-of-town modders. Rusty Griffaw is always one to watch in a case like this.
That’s a fact, Jack: Feature laps led this season: Michael Long 94, Steven DeLonjay 57. Rest of series: 35.

Pick to click: Tony Dunker. If Mr. Black Hat pulls off the trifecta, he’ll also pocket that $500 first prize that is available Sunday night in this series.
Don’t forget about: Bobby Anders, who has not won a feature since May 4. But he has not finished lower than fourth since May 25. He’s due.
That’s a fact, Jack:Granted, Dunker remains the overall dominant car in the series, but 10 different drivers have led features this season, headed by Aaron Brocksieck (48 laps) and Joey Gower (43).

Stock cars
Pick to click: No reason to believe Abe Huls won’t be talkin’ dirty a third straight week.
Don’t forget about: Jake Powers. He looked The Snake of old last Sunday.
That’s a fact, Jack: Huls, sport compact ace Austen Becerra and sport modder Tony Dunker are the only drivers at the track this season to win two features starting from the fourth row or deeper. All three also lead their respective classes in points and all three are also defending track champs.

Sport compacts
Pick to click: I could go way out on a limb and predict someone other than Austen Becerra to win — but I won’t.
Don’t forget about: That doesn’t mean Brandon Lambert, Kim Abbott and Bryce Baker won’t make a run at him.
That’s a fact, Jack: Becerra has won 11 total races, including eight features. The rest of the series has won a combined 15 races.
