Posted by – May 4, 2010

Hal Holbrook will appear in a stage performance of “Mark Twain Tonight!” at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hannibal High School, one of his first appearances since the death of his wife, actress Dixie Carter.

Holbrook, who serves as a member of the advisory board of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum, has been performing as Mark Twain since 1954. That means he has been portraying Twain longer (56 years) than Samuel Clemens was known as Twain (47 years).

In an interview on the Culture Monster blog of the Los Angeles Times, the 85-year-old Holbrook, never one to mince words, talks about the death of his wife, and offers his thoughts on the leaders of the Republican Party and the greed of Wall Street. He also discusses the”foolishness” of cable news and mentions his upcoming visit to Hannibal.
