Videographer Doral Chenoweth III with the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch knew Ted Williams was special when he met him. Williams was standing at the Hudson Street ramp off northbound I-71 in Columbus, holding a sign claiming he had a God-given gift of voice. Chenoweth asked him to prove his talent on video. Williams, a homeless man, was living in a tent just a few days ago. He has used his velvety, deep voice to land a job with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I can’t believe what’s going on,” Williams said Wednesday in a phone interview with The Associated Press. “God gave me a million-dollar voice, and I just hope I can do right by him.”
Williams told the AP the Cavaliers have offered him a two-year contract and said they would pay his living expenses.
Details of the contract have not been finalized, but Williams could have announcing responsibilities at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena.
He was slated to appear Thursday on NBC’s “Today” show after becoming an overnight celebrity.
